PERSONAL STATEMENT
My work aims to push the boundaries of materials. To build an object, then let gravity tear it apart, to fold and hang, wrinkle and crack like an ageing face. Awareness of how certain shapes and surfaces are signifiers of some sort of sexual nature is important. From one angle you could perceive the shape to be of say a woman's buttocks, look again and you may see a dissolving brushstroke or just a fold of clay.
I am currently applying for a MA at the Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy, while continuing to make work for exhibition and sale. Joe has recently become consultant curator for the 'take courage' gallery in London.
